Working on leash reactivity with Rui
Lost, frustrated, and profoundly confused, Rui’s owners found themselves at a complete loss as Rui’s leash reactivity had spiraled completely out of control. They soon discovered that they were unable to take Rui on even a quick walk around the block. Every time they encountered another dog, Rui would respond with aggressive barking and growling, making the situation increasingly difficult to manage. His owners struggled to keep his focus on them when faced with other dogs and various distractions outdoors, which unfortunately led to Rui having accidental incidents in the house.
This situation was particularly challenging and disheartening for the family, but his owners were absolutely determined to find a way to eliminate this overwhelming problem from their lives, and so was I.
By incorporating positive reinforcement into our month-long training program, we helped the dog learn to relax around other dogs while at the park with his owners. This required extensive practice with basic obedience training in various environments, along with using gentle equipment to minimize any stress or anxiety that might be caused by harsher training tools.
